If you wake up to snow, ice or other natural disasters or emergency situations, you
MAY find that schools in Federal Way have changed to an emergency schedule or even
cancelled. The best way to receive the most up-to-date information is to go on-line to
www.fwps.org/. Other options are to listen to the news on television or the radio. If
Federal Way School District is NOT listed, you can assume school will be on the regular schedule.

If Federal Way schools are listed, you will see/hear one of the following:
“CLOSED” means that NO schools in Federal Way Public School District will be in session
for that day only. It also means there will be no “out-of-district” transportation.

Students who attend “out-of-district” classes will NOT receive transportation, even if
the hosting district is in session. All scheduled athletic and activity events are also cancelled.

“2 HOURS LATE” means classes will begin two hours later than normal. Bus pick-up schedules will also be two hours later than normal. Buses will start their routes on the two-hour late schedule, but road and traffic conditions may impede progress, so the buses could be running later. Classes will dismiss at the normal time. Buses may be on EMERGENCY ROUTES. Emergency bus routes can be viewed on the district website at www.fwps.org/info/bus/emergency/.

Handouts will be distributed to all bus riders on Monday, Nov. 23. Please ask your child for this important paper.

When schools begin late, the following classes or programs will NOT operate:
• AM shuttles; AM O.S.C.
• AM kindergarten; AM pre-school
• AM/PM ELO; activity buses
• AM/PM headstart; elementary breakfast
• AM/PM ECEAP programs

“LIMITED BUS TRANSPORTATION” means that part or all of some routes will not be covered because of an emergency situation.

“NO TRANSPORTATION” means schools are open, classes are in session, but NO
BUSES will be operating. This includes “in-district,” “out-of-district” and “Special Needs” buses.

Please do not call the school or district office for information. Please use the district
website, radio or television for up-to-date information.
