HOMEWORK CLUB AT ADELAIDE
Does your child need homework help? Interested in being more active in your student’s education? Adelaide would like to start an after-school tutoring club so kids have a quiet place where they can get homework done and get extra help if they need it. To do this, though, we need help from parents.

Why Help?
When you take a more active stance in your child’s education, your student will take it more seriously also.
The success of every student affects the success of the school as a whole. If the school as a whole meets expectations then funding for our children’s education will not be affected. If every student is getting the support he/she needs, all the students benefit.

All parents whose children participate will need to volunteer for the club or in another aspect of the school so that this program can be implemented. Please fill out the form below and return it to the office if you are interested in your child participating in homework club.  Please fill out the form at the bottom of the November newsletter and return it the office before November 30, 2008.

Snapshot for November! Focus on Literacy!
Each month, every child focuses on a different literacy, comprehension skill. This focus is consistent, kindergarten through fifth grade. Be sure to ask your child about what they are learning.  Some great questions for the months of November and December are:

• What does sequence mean? (sequencing)
• Can you retell the important events of this story in order? (sequencing)
• Can you tell me how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without skipping any steps? (sequencing)
• If I were to ______________, what would happen? (cause and effect)
• What is the moral of the story? (theme)
• What is the author’s main point? (main idea)
• What lesson did the author want to learn? (theme)

 

WANTED:
Parents needed for SLT (School Leadership Team). Meet 3 times during the school year to help create School Improvement Plan. Call office if you are interested.
