ACCELERATED READER Brigadoon Elementary has just transferred to a new Accelerated Reader program--AR Enterprise. This program is Internet-based and allows our students access to ALL the tests created by Renaissance Learning company. This means that many of the books you have on your shelf at home are AR. Ah, but which ones, you ask... Click on this link to go to the RenLearn site to search their extensive test database. Renaissance Learning - Enterprise AR But what is AR, you ask? Accelerated Reader is a program that allows students
to take comprehension tests on the books that they are reading. Points
are earned based on the accuracy of their answers, the length, and the
reading level of the book. Student reading level is determined by the STAR
test. This is a simple computerized test given about 4 times a year. It
gives teachers the student's reading range, which is used to determine
their AR level. Books are available in all reading levels, and we use a color coding system to indicate which books are AR books, and which level they are. Library AR books have a green star on the top of the spine with a colored mini-dot stating the reading level. Open the book up and you'll find a label on the bottom of the first page giving all the AR information for the book. (Be aware that we are in the process of marking books since we went to the new system so it will be a while before ALL books have these markings. It's a work in progress!) Coloring system: The new Accelerated Reader is Internet-based, but students may NOT test from home. You may, however, go to the website above to find out if a book has a test. Students may test from any computer in the school but typically test in the classroom or the library. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact the librarian, Teresa Bateman at tbateman@fwps.org.
