Message from the Principal…..
Chris Odell
Brigadoon is set in a lovely area of large trees and expansive playgrounds. We are a preschool through fifth grade school, which currently has about 300 students. Our small size promotes a feeling that we are all part of the Brigadoon “family.” We teach our rules and values, beginning with our “Three Golden B Rules:” Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Productive. Our Tiger Club, monthly character trait focuses, and PAWS program help students learn to be self managers and good citizens. We have wonderful students at Brigadoon! During 2011-12, our school will include several multi-age classes. We also offer an all-day kindergarten and a preschool program.
Each year, we select a new theme to encourage reading. Our theme for 2011-12 is “Leap into Reading.” We will feature all kinds of leaping animals next year, which will help us bound toward our reading goals! Our students enjoy participating in the Accelerated Reading program, which is a motivational program that encourages extensive reading.
Our staff is a lovely combination of teachers who have been dedicated to Brigadoon for many years, and those who are newer to the profession. They offer the wisdom of experience, and the energy and fresh enthusiasm of newer teachers. We believe that the power in our teaching begins with the foundation of positive relationships with individual students. Active participation in learning and the self-confidence which comes from success, help students develop toward their full potential. Brigadoon has a long history in the Federal Way community. Some of our students’ parents, and even grandparents, attended Brigadoon. They enjoy bringing their children back to their childhood school.
The Brigadoon PTA is a dedicated group of parents and others who support our students through family fun events, fundraising support, and other activities that add enjoyment to life at school. Other events for families are presented by the school. These include music programs, math and family evenings, Science Fair, and our Multicultural Celebration. Brigadoon families are very supportive of our school events, which we greatly appreciate!
