Brigadoon Elementary Information

What is Special About Our School?

A special feature of Brigadoon is that almost all of our students live within walking distance of school. That makes Brigadoon the heart of the community, both before and after school.

Family participation in after-school events such as math and reading evenings, PTA fun nights, and music concerts, is always high.

Reading is encouraged in a variety of ways at Brigadoon. Instruction focuses on the Daily Five components of Shared Reading, Read Aloud, Independent Reading, Guided Reading, and One-on-One Conferring. The Accelerated Reader program, Reading Buddies, and Battle of the Books are other ways that reading is fostered. Each year our Accelerated Reader program features a different theme, which inspires readers and makes our reading journey more engaging.

Our Americorps volunteer and parent volunteers provide additional support to students.

Our math program focuses on the learning of the Washington Math Performance Expectations at each grade level. Our math instruction focuses on the learning of essential math concepts, problem solving. and computational fluency.

The diversity of our student population is another strength of Brigadoon. Our students speak a variety of languages and have families with origins in a variety of countries. This diversity enriches our friendships and deepens our understanding of the cultures around us.

Brigadoon is proud of the strong academic program and enrichment programs that we offer our students. In 2008, we were honored to receive the Superintendent of Public Instruction’s School of Distinction award.

We offer an outstanding All-day Kindergarten program and a multi-age GATE (Gifted and Talented) class.

We have an exciting music program.

Our self-managers program, the Tiger Club, provides an opportunity for student recognition and leadership.

We are also proud of our extensive library, active PTA program, classroom volunteers, spring track, and intramural programs.

We host an on-site daycare program through Rainbow Connection.

Brigadoon staff is committed to helping our students achieve to their highest potential. We believe that the best way to do that is when the students, parents, and staff work together as a team, towards that common goal. Student-led conferences are one way that we share information about goals and progress.

We appreciate input from families at any time. At Brigadoon, we are deeply committed to serving all students.
