A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL, CHRIS ODELL Welcome to Brigadoon Elementary School, home of the Tigers! At Brigadoon, it is our number one priority to assist our students in meeting or exceeding state and district standards in all academic areas. Our goal for the 2006-07 school year mirrors that of the Federal Way School District. We aim to have at least 70% of our students meet standard in math, and 90% meet standard in reading. On the 2006 WASL, our fourth grade students achieved as follows: Math 69.2% met standard Reading 86.1% met standard Writing 61.5% met standard We are striving to meet those goals by providing 90 minutes of literacy instruction in class each day. We encourage all students to read approximately 30 minutes at home daily. At home reading is supported through our Accelerated Reader program. In addition to classroom instruction in mathematics, using the Investigations curriculum and the Addison, Wesley, Scott, Foresman curriculum, we also use Accelerated Math and a supplemental program of math facts mastery. Students are supported as needed, through small group and individual tutoring in English language learning programs, reading assistance programs, and math support programs. Brigadoon Elementary represents a diverse community of learners. We are committed to developing students who are safe, kind, and productive. Vision Statement We can make students' lives better by meeting the educational needs of every student. Mission Statement We meet the needs of every student by: · Motivating students to set and attain learning goals · Partnering with our students, parents, and community · Ensuring that everything we do leads to a safe, healthy environment · Helping students work toward their full potential. etter from our new principal is forthcoming.
