Elementary Homework is a constructive tool in the teaching/learning process when geared to the needs and abilities of students. Purposeful assignments not only enhance student achievement but also develop responsibility, self-discipline, and good work habits. As an extension of the classroom, homework must be planned and organized, and must be viewed as purposeful by students. Homework may be assigned for one or more of the following purposes: 1. Practice: to help students master specific skills which have been presented to the class; 2. Preparation: to help students gain the maximum benefits from future lessons; 3. Extension: to provide students with opportunities to transfer specific skills or concepts to new situations; 4. Creativity: to require students to integrate many skills and concepts in order to produce original responses. The below are general guidelines and are not meant to be inflexible or rigid. Our goal is to meet the needs of individual students and the teaching styles of individual teachers. The rate at which students work will vary, and so, therefore, will the time they spend on homework. Teachers may modify and adapt homework for individual students. Also, students may have additional work IF classroom assignments are not completed. If no homework is assigned, it is extremely valuable for students to spend homework time reading! Practice skills &
concepts taught in class. Students read or parents
read aloud to student. Study spelling, language
arts, social studies, math, reports. Some projects will be long
term with periodic monitoring by teacher. Read! Students are responsible for:
