ASE Certification Defined:
• Passing score on exams
• Two years of post-educational work experience
• Designed for Journeyman Technicians/Specialists
• Good for 5 years
• Credentials accepted industry-wide
ASE Master Status is achieved by passing each of the 8 specialty exams in conjunction with 2 years of post-educational work experience (must retake all 8 exams every five years to maintain this level of certification.)
Is this program right for me?
The motor vehicle repair industry has taken on a new sophistication. It requires advanced technical training and computer literacy. Today’s automotive technician must have:

What Decatur’s program offers:
Automobile Technician Specialty certification covering
the following ASE tests:
1. Engine Repair
2. Suspension & Steering
3. Brakes
4. Electrical/Electronic Systems
5. Heating and Air Conditioning
6. Engine Performance
Each year of instruction substitutes for up to 1 year of the 2-year ASE work experience requirement (must successfully complete all thrree years of Decatur’s 3-year program to receive any applicable credit)
Are there other benefits?
• Decatur’s Automotive Technology program offers crossover credits for English, math, science, and can also count as one of your required electives.
• By completing this program you can earn college credit! The program articulates through the King County Tech Prep Consortium with tech-prep programs at both Renton Technical College and Green River Community College.
What is our Mission?
The primary objective of Decatur’s Automotive Technology program is to provide students with the opportunity to prepare for the world of work in Automotive Service
• ASE is the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, a nonprofit organization established in 1972 by the automotive industry to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive repair technicians.
• NATEF, the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, is a separate non-profit foundation within the ASE organization. The primary mission of NATEF is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide through voluntary certification.
• NATEF is responsible for the program evaluation process, and makes recommendations for ASE program certification based on the evaluation.
• The State Departments of Education in all 50 states support ASE certification of automotive programs.
