Automotive Fundamentals (Auto 1 and 2)
Credits: .5 per semester, Year Course
Prerequisite: None
Special Information: No Fees, Science or Math (crossover) with a grade of "B" or better, if followed by Auto Mech. 3 & 4, Occupational Ed. Credit, Tech Prep

Automotive Technology 3 and 4
Credits: .5 per semester, Year Course
Prerequisite: None
Special Information: No Fees, .5 Senior English elective or Science or Math (crossover) with a grade of "B" or better, if followed by Auto Mech. 5 & 6, Occupational Ed. Credit, Tech Prep

Automotive Technology 5 and 6
Credits: .5 per semester, Year Course
Prerequisite: Auto Mechanics 4 & 5

IAutomotive Fundamentals (Auto 1 and 2)

Autoimotive Fundamentals is designed to allow a student with no knowledge or prior experience to enter Decatur's Automotive Program. Students will be given training in Safety, Leadership, as well as the proper training to use and care for hand tools.

 

 


Key areas of focus include:

Changing Oil
Chassis Lube
Changing Filters
Complete Tire Service
Basic Tune-up
Engine Condition Analysis
Basic Suspension Service
Repair Brakes
Basic Electrical
General Vehicle Maintenance

 


Auto Mechanics 3 & 4

Upon completion of Automotive Fundamentals (Auto 1 & 2), students can enter Auto 3 &4 and take their skills to the next level. They will build on the skills gained during Auto Fundamentals by developiong an individual learning plan based on guidlines provided by the instructor. students will be able to chose from the the automotive systems listed below.

Safety and leadership are an integral part of this class curriculum. Students can opt for involvement in the Skills USA organization and participate in contests to earn recognition, awards, and profession development points.

Students will be afforded the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship program through Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) if they meet the standards for the progfram.

Air Conditioning, Heating & Ventilation


 


Automotive Technology 5 & 6


 

 

Students will develop an individual learning plan that continues from Auto Tech 3 & 4. If students particpated in the AYES internship the previous summer, they may be able to continue the internship through the school year. Students who complete all three years with a grade of "B"or better will receive a certificate of proficiency along with a list of the skills and knowledge they have gained as a part of their portfolio.

 

Successful completion of the three year Automotive Technology Program here at Decatur High School will help prepare students for ASE certification. They will receive 900 hours of credit toward the 4,160 hour work experience requirement as well as having prepared to pass the ASE certification tests. Along with the benefit

of cross crediting in math, science, and senior english to meet graduation requirements, Students can earn Tech Prep credit at either Green River Community College or Renton Technical College.
