Q. How do I make an appointment to have my car worked on by the DHS Auto Shop?
A. Call the instructor, Mr. Angell, at 253-945-5260 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Q. Can community members bring their cars in for repairs?
A. Not generally; students and members of their immediate families as well as faculty and staff in the district can have work done on their vehicles. In some special cases, with instructor permission, vehicles belonging to community members may be worked on. Only students enrolled in the program may do the work, however.
Q. What type of repairs can the high school shop students do?
A. The students under the supervision of the instructor can perform complete service procedures, brake repair, tune-up, wheel alignments, suspension repair, electrical, engine and transmission, clutches, and diagnostics.
Q. Does the school shop supply the needed parts and supplies to repair my car?
A. Yes, the shop purchases the parts as needed and charges the customer for the part using the procedure using a signed repair order as outlined in the FWPS procedure. In some cases the customer will supply the part.
Q. Is the work guaranteed?
A. The work is closely monitored by the instructor and done according to proper procedure. Should there be a need to re-do a repair job, the vehicle owner would need to supply the parts required to do the job again.
Q. Will the repairs on my car be done in one day?
A. Usually, but
it depends on the repairs being done. Because this is a training program, quality is emphasized before quantity. However,most service work can be done in one day. If the repair will take more than one day the instructor or shop forman will notify the customer.
Q. Will my car be safe if I leave it overnight?
A. Yes. If the car is in the shop it is locked and protected by a security system and video surveillance. It is not recommended to leave it outside in the parking lot as cars have been vandalized.
