Admission Testing

For many students, the first step in the college admissions process is to register for the SAT or ACT. Most four year colleges and universities require scores from either the SAT or ACT to be sent as part of their admissions application.

Most students take the SAT or ACT during the second semester of their junior year.

Prior to taking the SAT or ACT, juniors take the PSAT during October of their junior year.

The PSAT, offered once annually, is great practice for the SAT and can qualify students for the National Merit Scholar program. Students who score in the top 3% nationally can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program with the top 1% qualifying as National Merit semi -finalists. Students can also use their PSAT results to help them prepare for the SAT test.

Decatur's Career Center subscribes to WOIS (Washington Occupational Information Services ) an online career information service that now includes test prep materials for the PSAT, SAT and ACT through Peterson's. While on WOIS, click on "Student Edge" and set up your profile. Please see Mrs. Font for the WOIS site key and instructions on how to access this important test preparation resource.
