High School & Beyond Plan/Culminating Project

The High School & Beyond Plan/Culminating Project is a Washington State graduation requirement for the class of 2008 and beyond. The goal of the High School and Beyond Plan and Culminating Project is to connect graduating students with the real world outside the boundaries of High School. It is designed to help make the transition to life after high school a smooth one. Decatur High School along with the Federal Way School District has chosen a portfolio format for their High School and Beyond and Culminating Project.

The Culminating Project in conjunction with the High School and Beyond Plan demonstrates that students have the necessary skills to either continue their education or enter the job market or pursue an apprenticeship or career in the military. Students will be assembling and presenting a Master Portfolio that illustrates that they have the necessary skills to succeed in the future. Elements of the Master Portfolio include a resume and cover letter, and samples of their best works from high school as well as other items.

Decatur High School has developed a sample Master Portfolio to assist and guide students in their assembly of their own portfolio. Copies of this sample portfolio are available in the Career Center and in your advisory class. In addition Decatur High School is making the Sample Portfolio available here online.

The sample portfolio consists of examples in pdf format. In addition some pages are also available in Rich Text Format (rtf) to allow students to use them as a starting template for their own work.

Need to get a Letter of Recommendation for College? Print and fill out Decatur's Senior Recommendation Profile. Once you have filled it out give it to your teachers when you ask for a College Letter of Recommendation. They'll thank you for it.

When getting a Letter of Recommendation for your Master Portfolio, it is best to use letters from work, volunteer experiences, church and other community activities. These letters can be used when seeking employment. Please save the teacher recommendations for scholarship and college application requests.
