MAY DEADLINES

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON’S BEROL-SHINDELL SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is for Jewish students in financial need who plan to attend the University of Washington.  Academic achievement and community service will be considered but financial need is a primary consideration in selection of recipients.  Amounts vary depending upon the overall financial needs of those applying.  Deadline:  May 4, 2007      

 

NORTHWEST JOURNALISTS OF COLOR:  To apply, students must be seniors, residents of Washington state and planning to pursue a career in journalism. Winners will be selected based on journalistic ability, dedication to the field and financial need.  Award amounts will range up to $2,000.  Deadline:  May 7, 2007

 

PAUL R. WINEMAN FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP/UW:  This scholarship is available to any male student who will be attending the University of Washington in the fall of 2006.  One award of $1,000 and at least four awards of $250 will be given.  Membership in the Phi Kappa Psi is not a requirement to win a scholarship.  Deadline:  May 7, 2007

 

LUKE’S LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  To be eligible, applicants must have earned at least one varsity letter in WIAA high school golf.  Selection criteria will be based on demonstrated financial need, academic performance and a commitment to community service.  Three scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded.  Deadline:  May 10, 2007

 

AMERICAN INDIAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  Applicant must be a financially needy student with close cultural ties to an American Indian tribe who will be enrolled full-time at a public or independent university in Washington.  About fifteen students receive awards ranging from $500 to $2,000 per student. Applications can be completed on-line at:

INTERNATIONAL AIR & HOSPITALITY ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIPS:  Three scholarships of $1,000 each for tuition to International Air & Academy’s Airline/Travel Specialist, Culinary Arts, Hospitality or Restaurant Management program.  These are nomination only awards. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN, SEATTLE SECTION:  This scholarship offers a partial tuition award for Jewish female or male students who plan to attend a Washington State public or private college, technical/vocational school, or job retraining program.  Selection is based on financial need, academic achievement, essay, Jewish and general community involvement, and special aptitudes, skills and interests.  Deadline:  May 15, 2007

 

SEATTLE-NANTES DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS:  Dollars for Scholars award $1,000 scholarships to seniors who plan to major or minor in French at a college or university in Washington this fall.  Students must become members of the Seattle-Nantes Association to apply ($10).  Selection is based on academics, extra-curricular activities, and an essay.  Two letters of recommendation are required.  Deadline:  May 15, 2007               

 

DELTA UPSILON SCHOLARSHIP:  These scholarships will be awarded based on personal merit and academic qualities.  A total of four scholarships will be given, each in the following amounts: $1000, $750, $500, and $250.  Students must be male and entering their first year of college at the University of Washington. Applicants do not have to join Delta Upsilon Fraternity or any other Greek institution to be considered for this scholarship.  Deadline:  May 25, 2007

 

NORDSTROM SCHOLARSHIP 2007:  This scholarship is for juniors and will be awarded to five students in Washington and Alaska.  To be eligible, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, have made a substantial contribution to the community, be involved in school activities and demonstrate the financial need for a scholarship. A 500-word essay, a personal statement, and a financial statement are required. Award is for $10,000 paid over four years in equal installments of $2,500.  Deadline:  May 31, 2007

 

SEATTLE PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP:  This scholarship is for graduating seniors of African or African American descent that are residents of King County and attend school in King County.  Applicants must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher and plan to enroll in a 4-year college or university in the Summer/Fall of 2007.  Selection is based on Academic merit, external activities, community service, quality of essay, letters of recommendation, and honors/awards.  Two scholarships of $500 each will be awarded.  Deadline:  May 31, 2007

 

WASHINGTON FEDERATION OF PRIVATE CAREER SCHOOLS & COLLEGES:  CAREERS THAT WORK:  This is a nomination only scholarship.  Three $1,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving seniors at each high school in the state.  The scholarships may be used at a number of participating private career schools and colleges throughout Washington.  For a list of participating institutions, see Mrs. Font in the Career Center.  Deadline:  May 31, 2007

 

JUNE DEADLINES

 

BEV AND WES STOCK SCHOLARSHIP:  The Seattle Mariners Women’s Club will award this scholarship to a deserving athlete who displays good character both on and off the playing field, no matter what sport.  High school seniors from the state of Washington who are planning to pursue an athletic-related career and will be attending a college or university in the coming academic year.  Selection is based on merit (Curriculum, GPA, Community Service).  An essay, three letters of recommendation, and a transcript are required to apply.  Award amount is $1,000.  Deadline: June 1, 2007

 

 

 

DECATUR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA SCHOLARSHIP:  The Decatur PTSA will be awarding scholarships in the amounts of $500 and $250.  To qualify, you must be a senior graduating in June 2007, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and plan to attend an accredited post secondary institution.  Applicants must complete an application, attach a copy of your acceptance letter, and complete a one-page essay question.  Deadline:  No later than 2:15 pm, Friday, June 1, 2007

 

KAPPA SIGMA FRATERNITY-MEN’S UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS –UW:  Candidates must be male and accepted to the University of Washington for fall quarter 2007. Applicants will be judged on academics, extra-curricular involvement, and an interview.  Award amounts are $1000 and $500. Applications are also available on-line at: www.kappasigmauw.org.  Deadline:  June 15, 2007

 

WASHINGTON STATE “FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME” SCHOLARSHIP:  All Washington State high school students ages 14 – 19 can apply by submitting their own edited sports video clip (maximum length two minutes) to: www.atozsports.biz/award/.  Winning videos will receive scholarships and will be featured on the A to Z Sports homepage. Award amounts are $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third place.  Deadline:  June 15, 2007

 

BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIP/SIGMA PHI EPSILON – UW:  The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity offers one $1,000 scholarship, one $500 and two $250 scholarships.  The scholarship is offered to male freshmen planning to attend the University of Washington who excel in the areas of academics, leadership, athletics and community service.  You do not have to join Sigma Phi Epsilon or any other fraternity to receive the scholarship. Deadline: June 20, 2007

The Scholarship Guide is not a complete listing of all scholarships available, but only the ones that Decatur High School receives. Scholarships are offered at national, state, and local levels.  Students can search for scholarships on the Internet, public library, scholarship books, and at the college or university you plan to attend.
