Dear Parents and Guardians:
Our students and staff continue to do amazing things here at Federal Way High School. For the second year in a row, our boys’ basketball team has won the 4A Washington State Championship. In addition, coaches Pat Adkins, Jerome Collins, and Mike Minahan all were inducted into the Federal Way Athletic Hall of Fame. These distinguished teachers and coaches exemplify what it means to mentor and bring out the best in our students. Finally, our very own teacher Andy Cameron was awarded the Washington State High School ASB Advisor of the Year. We are so very fortunate to have such dedicated and talented teachers working so hard to have a positive impact on Federal Way High School!
As you can see, the construction of our new school is coming along beautifully. Students and staff have adapted to the new environment gracefully, and we are all grateful for the patience of all stakeholders. The payoff becomes more and more visible every day. I am particularly looking forward to the new ProStart culinary arts program, state of the art engineering and advanced manufacturing lab, and many other opportunities for students.
During 4/18 through 4/27 and 5/12 through 5/26 we will be administering WA State’s Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA), which is a graduation requirement. This assessment focuses on the Common Core standards in reading, writing, and math. Please try to not schedule planned absences on those days, as the tests are difficult to make up. As always, be sure your student is well rested and has had a substantial meal before testing.
Thank you for your continued positive support of our school. I look forward to seeing you at the many functions this spring.
Dr. Matt Oberst
