Scholarship/Awards Bulletin

Information and/or applications for the following scholarships are available in the Career Center. 

 

A.E.M.P. Foundation Scholarships:  Students who will be enrolled in a qualified school in a 2 year diesel technician program are eligible to apply for this  $2000.00 scholarship. Many scholarships are given out.  This is a great opportunity to get your education paid for.  Most scholarship recipients will have guaranteed job placement after training.   Application Deadline May 1st.

 

Alert Magazine:  Applicants will write an essay about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse.  Applicant must maintain a 2.5 GPA.  No Application Deadline. 

 

Alpha Omicron Boule:  Applicant must be an African American male and a citizen of the United States.  The scholarship committee will select students who have demonstrated the potential to successfully complete a four-year university, four-year college or two-year community college program.  Application Deadline April 15th.

 

American Institute of Chemical Engineers:  This scholarship is awarded to qualified ethnic minority high school seniors who intend to enroll in a four-year college and plan to major in Science or engineering with a preference for chemical engineering.  Application Deadline April 20th.

 

Berol-Shindell Scholarship:  Application open to all Jewish students who are planning on attending the University of Washington.  Application Deadline May 3rd.

 

Bev and Wes Stock Scholarship:  The Seattle Mariners Women’s Club will present the “Bev and Wes Stock Scholarship” to a deserving athlete who displays good character both on and off the playing field no matter what sport.  This scholarship will be given to a senior who is planning to pursue an athletic-related career.  Application Deadline June 1.

 

Blacks in Government: The Southeast Chapter Blacks in Government firmly believes that in order to help African American youth gain access to the best possible education we must provide monetary assistance and promote a diverse and competitive educational environment.  Three $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded to African American students who have a GPA of at least  2.5.  Application Deadline April 30th.

 

Careers that Work:   Federal Way High School will award 3 scholarships of $1,000 each to students who have been  accepted to a participating Washington, Oregon or Idaho  private career college.  Please see listing in the career center.  Applicant must fill out “Keys to the Future” application. Application Deadline May 5th.

 

Daughters of the American Revolution: The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors scholarships in American History for students whose mothers may be members of DAR.  Many scholarships to choose from.  Application Deadlines Varies.

 

DeVry University Community Scholar:  Federal Way High School will award one student in the class of 2008 who will be attending DeVry University next year with a $1000.00 scholarship. Applicant must notify Ms. Boone in the career center that you have been accepted to DeVry University.  Application Deadline July 1st.

 

Devry University Scholarships:  Information for scholarships for Devry University can be downloaded from www.devry.edu/scholarships or scholaships@devry.edu Application Deadline Varies.

 

DeVry University Community Scholars Award:  One student from Federal Way High School will qualify for $1,000.00 scholarship per semester.  Students must notify Ms. Boone if they are planning on attending DeVry University next year.  Application Deadline June 1st .

 

Dorothy Myers Phillips Scholarship:  Award is given out to an outstanding high school senior with good qualities, good grades and who is interested in history and plans on majoring in history when in college.  Application Deadline May 1st.

 

Grants and Scholarships for African American Students:  The Career Center has a list of current websites for students to look at and apply for scholarships.  Application Deadlines vary.

 

Green River Community College Foundation Scholarship:  Green River Community College Foundation Scholarships are now available.  Over 140 scholarships will be given for the 2008/2009 school year.   Foundation Scholarships range from $500.00 to full tuition plus books.  Application Deadline April 30th.

 

Green River Community College Community Leadership Scholarship:  Grants are awarded to students who will be attending GRCC and have demonstrated interest in student leadership and an outstanding potential for management.  Application deadline April 18th.

 

Highline Community College Breakthrough Scholarship:  At least one student from Federal Way High School will receive the Breakthrough Scholarship.  Applicant must be planning on attending Highline Community College and have a 2.5 GPA.  Application Deadline May 2nd.

 

Highline Community College Science Scholars:  Applicants must be eligible for federal aid, maintain a 2.5 GPA and willing to pursue a degree in Pure or Applied Science at Highline Community College.

 

International Air and Hospitality Academy:  $ 2,000 awarded to a FWHS student who is planning on attending the International Air and Hospitality Academy in Vancouver WA.  See Ms. Boone for Details.  Application Deadline Varies.

 

Luke’s Legacy Scholarship:  This scholarship is awarded in the memory of Luke Johnson, a Federal Way High School athlete who was killed in an automobile accident just before his senior year.  To be eligible to apply for this scholarship the applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in WIAA High School Golf.  Application Deadline May 14th.

 

National Council of Jewish Women:  For close to a century the Seattle Section of the National Council of Jewish Women has awarded scholarships to financially needy female and male Jewish students for undergraduate academic study and technical training.  Application Deadline May 15th.

 

Nordstrom Scholarship:  This scholarship is open to all juniors who have maintained at least a 207 GPA , have made a substantial contribution to the community, is involved in school activities and demonstrate financial need.  Application Deadline May 31st.

 

Panhellenic Scholarship:  the University of Washington Panhellenic Association is offering two high school senior women $300.00 scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year. One scholarship will be offered to a University of Washington bound-student and another to an in-state student planning on going through recruitment for Greek Life.  Application Deadline May 5th.

 

Rotary Scholarship:  Each year the Federal Way Noon Rotary Club offers scholarships to seniors who graduate from a Federal Way High School.  Scholarships are based on financial need. Generally students who receive scholarships are within the top 30% of their high school class. Application Deadline April 18th.

 

University of Washington:

1.      U of W Nikkei Alumni Association:  Applicant must be of Japanese ancestry who plans on attending the University of Washington.  Application Deadline April 15th.

2.      Delta Upsilon Scholarship:  The Washington Chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity is pleased to offer $2500 in scholarships to four outstanding Gentlemen who will be entering the University of Washington.  Application Deadline May 15th.

3.      Aplha Kappa Lambda Scholarship:  AKL is returning to the University of Washington after a short absence and AKL alumni are selecting the founders. Two scholarships are available. Please check application for appropriate one.  Only male students who will be attending the University of Washington will be eligible to apply.  Application Deadline June 15th.

 

 

4.      The Paul R. Wineman Scholarship:  Scholarships are available to any male student who will be attending the University of Washington.  Although Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity sponsors this scholarship you do not need to be a member of Phi Kappa Psi to apply.  Application Deadline May 5th.

 

V.F.W. Post 3348 Scholarship Foundation: Open to all students who will be a graduate of a Washington State High School with a GPA of 2.7 or above.  Candidate will also be a child or grandchild of a veteran of the US Armed Forces.

 

Washington  State University:  Scholarships are available for students interested in Physics or Astronomy and will be attending Washington State University fall 2008.  Application Deadline April 4th.

 

Western Washington University : Numerous Academic, Merit, and Diversity Scholarships available to students who wish to continue their education at Western Washington University.  See Career Center for details.  Application deadlines vary.

 

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority:  Applicants must be a graduating female with an accumulative 2.5 GPA or better.  Application Deadline April 16th.
