Kilo
Learning Plan Building Goals: 2000-2003
The Kilo Learning Plan Building Goals will be divided in to three
areas: reading, writing, and math.
Each goal will address each grade level in school except the
math goal which will be course-driven.
The goals will clearly express the literacy focus of the district
and also the specific focus areas within our school: technology, school-to-work,
and critical thinking skills. These
goals have been developed by the School Leadership Team with specific
input from each school department and program.
The actual goal development committee included teachers, paraeducators,
parents, students, and administration (building and central office). The adventure began in September 1999 and was finalized in September
2000. It was a very long but
rewarding process. The goals
will be in place for three years and will be monitored yearly by both
specified staff members and the School Leadership Team.
Yearly results will be published in the School Profile published
by the Federal Way School District and in the Cougar Connection, the
building newsletter that is mailed to each Kilo household. |

Kilo Junior High School Profile Summary 2000- 2001 Kilo was last remodeled in 1994. Since the remodel much of the emphasis has been on the infusion of technology into our program. Students have benefited from the addition of a computer lab and a half lab in our library, as well as a keyboarding lab, and a mini-lab for both reading and math. The science department received a grant from the Gates Foundation which gave us a one to eight ratio of computers to students in our 7th grade science classroom and they have integrated with 7th grade geography which also has a mini-laptop lab with MacIntosh computers. Students have benefited from the integration of technology into the regular school curriculum in reading, language arts, science, physical education, social studies, health and other elective courses. These are important skills that they will need in the future as they enter the world of work. Our 2000-2003 Building Learning Plan is current having been updated by our School Leadership Team that is composed of staff, students, parents, and a district office representative during the 1999-2000 school year. We have developed the vision statement for our building which is "READING, THINKING, DOING…MAKING A DIFFERENCE." The mission statement for our building was developed by a sub-committee of our School Leadership Team and approved by staff and parents. MISSION STATEMENT: At Kilo Junior high we seek to teach students the value of learning, to inspire academic excellence and intellectual curiosity, to guide students toward personal responsibility, and to foster civility, honesty, dignity, and pride. The principles that guide our school are demonstrated in our motto
COUGAR PRIDE and by the five points of the COUGAR STAR: We have developed a student profile which describes "What should a
student look like when they leave Kilo?" Our Learning Plan addresses
this question. There were six areas which we identified in our profile. Core Academics Problem Solving Productive Citizenship Commitment to Quality Work Healthy Living |
