Algebraic Thinking (AT) is a three year middle grades mathematics program designed to help students learn and understand the concepts of Algebra. Students not only gain understanding, but also confidence in mathematics, that in turn helps them to achieve goals and apply mathematics to all aspects of life. The Algebraic Thinking program combines comprehensive and ongoing staff development with a complete on grade level mathematics program. Algebraic Thinking addresses all strands in a state's standard course of study. The "Seven Levels of Staff Development Support " begins by providing intensive summer training. AT supports teachers in their classrooms through in-person and online coaching. The final stage of staff development prepares teams of teachers within the district to carry on the training of their colleagues in the district, thus effecting systemic change. AT uses Unique Methodology to help students not only come up with an answer, but more importantly, understand the answer. By combining these two elements, students become confident and learn concepts that can be expanded in math classrooms during the rest of their academic career. I am excited to share the 60 hours of combined training I have undergone in this course between this summer and last. The students will NOT bring text books from AT home, these books will stay in the classroom. Weekly lessons will be put into your student’s folder for review at home.
