Dear
Parents and Students,
I would like to welcome you to Lake Dolloff Elementary and our Physical
Education Experience.
I'd like to take a moment and introduce myself to you. My name is
Mr. Corrado. I graduated from Central Washington University in the
spring of 2005. I spent the winter and spring of 2006 as a substitute
teacher in the Puyallup school district and am now a resident of Federal
Way. It is extremely important to me that I am able to give back to
our community, by helping our young people develop into respectable,
contributing individuals. I have many goals for us to achieve during
our physical education experience through out the school year.
Expectations
and goals of my classes:
To develop skills necessary to live a long and healthy active life
through the use of developmentally appropriate equipment and education.
I will always try to supply my students with the best equipment suited
for them.
My
expectations of each individual in my class:
1. Safety. Each student will be given proper instruction and
knowledge to participate safely in my class and when involved in activities
beyond physical education class.
2. Respect. We will respect each individual for who they are.
We will also respect ourselves.
3. Listen. It is extremely important that we listen to each
other in order to understand each other's needs and desires.
4. Active Participation. In order to be successful in life
and in my class we all need to TRY OUR BEST and be open and
willing to try things we are not use to.
5. Follow Directions. In order to fulfill the other four expectations
we need make sure we know and follow the directions given by the teacher.
My
Attire Regulations:
NO OPEN TOED SHOES. It is extremely important that the students
wear appropriate clothing that covers them at all times. For example
skirts are not appropriate because the student may be asked to participate
in tumbling activities. I advise that large baggy clothing not be
worn, as it will hinder the student's ability to move freely and get
the best experience out of PE.
My grading system is as follows:
· 60% is based on participation. If the student comes to class
ready to participate, in every activity I have for them they will
receive full participation points each day. · 20% is based on student's
self-evaluation. I will provide the students with an opportunity
to evaluate themselves.
This evaluation will be based on a score from 0-3.
Three
represents a day which they were on task and always followed directions,
participated to their fullest ability and had no discipline issues.
Two represents a day when the student may have used profanity
or had to be reminded once to be on-task.
One represents a day when he or she wakes up on the wrong side
of the bed and just does not want to be in P.E. This student does
not follow direction and does not participate in P.E., but does not
cause any discipline problems.
Zero
represents a day when a student has to be asked to sit out of any
activity for not following directions, class expectations, and/or
behavior issues. I will review each student's daily evaluation and
discuss any modifications with him or her.
20% of the overall grade will be based on all graded work assigned
during P.E.
My progression for dealing with undesired behavior
(at any time steps 1-3 may be implemented if the behavior
requires such action)
1. First time issues will be dealt with in class
2. Second offences will require a call/letter/email home
3. Third time there should be no third time!
Options
are to involve classroom teacher, principal and/or removal from PE.
I believe if we all agree to work together and hold our youth and
ourselves to a standard above mediocrity we will increase our chances
for success! I hope you will join me in this experience.
