Handbook - V. Actions that Require Discipline

Discipline Actions Taken By Principal
Students are referred to the principal after the teacher has dealt with the problem repeatedly or when the student has committed a serious violation. Serious violations include:

Fighting – Any physical contact of a violent nature, intended to cause harm…pushing, shoving, tripping, threatening, posturing in a threatening manner, or agreeing to engage in a fight… the act of quarreling involving bodily contact physical threats of violence to persons.

Disruptive Conduct – Physical and/or verbal intimidation behavior which interferes with the learning environment and/or school activities... engaging in unsafe behavior for self & others…stealing, gang related dress/activities…destruction of property…use, sale and/or possession of alcohol, drugs, weapons (to include replicas displayed or represented as real weapons & objects used as weapons), explosives, personal protections spray devices…dress and appearance which present health or safety problems or cause disruptions…inappropriate overt display of affection.

Defiance – Refusing to comply (verbally or physically) with staff/school rules… with reasonable requests which involve safety… defiance or disrespect toward school employees… interfering with school personnel (verbally and/or by display of inappropriate attitude).

Verbal Abuse – Language which is disrespectful, provocative and demeaning to others with intent to cause anger and/or discomfort in others… swearing, use of profanity, inappropriate terms/phrases for school setting whether spoken to another individual/group or stated aloud generally.

Intimidation – Threatening physical harm, mental coercion, harassment of any form (to include, but not limited to racial, sexual)… any act (verbal or physical) or words and/or symbols written or displayed with intent to cause others to change their behavior out of fear for their safety… to knowingly obtain or attempt to obtain money, property, or services by use of threats or forcing someone to do something by force or threat of force.
