VI. Discipline
Discipline
School discipline is designed to be a learning process. Expectations
for students riding the bus, walking to and from school, in the classroom
and outside the classroom are clearly communicated and reinforced.
Consequences for inappropriate conduct are logical and instructive.
Every attempt is made to protect the privacy of the student and to
keep the parents informed of difficulties at school. We have a specific
plan for school-wide expectations and consistent application of school
policies. School and parent communication is a part of this play.
Positive actions are rewarded, negative actions are dealt with in
a variety of ways tailored to the severity of infractions. Since we
must abide by rules in our daily lives, teachers and students will
establish rules for their classroom. Students will be clearly informed,
in advance, of the consequences, both negative and positive, for following
these rules.
The
principal will handle serious violations that may result in one or
all of the following:
1. Fighting · Conference with pupil (warning, reprimand) ·
Loss of privilege and/or assigned additional tasks · Phone call and/or
discipline notice to parents (requires parent signature & return)

6. Federal Way School District Weapon Policy School District
Policy requires that if your son/daughter is found to have a weapon
on Federal Way School District property or at Federal Way School District
functions, he/she will be subject to emergency expulsion. Emergency
expulsion means immediate removal from school and all school related
activities and can permanently exclude your child from attendance
at all Federal Way Public Schools. Possessing a look-alike weapon
and/or using an object as a weapon may also result in an emergency
expulsion. Disciplinary action for possession of look-alike weapons
and/or use of objects as weapons will be determined based upon the
age of the child and the circumstances (at the elementary level).
7. Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs, & Mind Altering Substances The
Federal Way School district has stringent discipline policies for
all students (K-12) related to possession, use of, and/or sale of
the items mentioned above (#6). Therefore, it is imperative that parents/guardians
work with school personnel in preventing student, of any age, from
bringing such items to our school.
