CAMBRIDGE CHECKPOINT PREPARATORY ACADEMY

The Cambridge Checkpoint Preparatory Academy is an advanced program for academically talented middle school students, sponsored by Cambridge University in England. In Federal Way, it is offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Lakota and Sacajawea middle schools. Checkpoint offers a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and develops skills for success in any advanced program, but leads directly into Cambridge Preparatory Academy at Federal Way High School and an Advanced International Certificate of Education through Cambridge University.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE CAMBRIDGE CHECKPOINT PROGRAM?

  • An advanced academic curriculum in Math, Science, and English for academically talented students

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE CAMBRIDGE CHECKPOINT PREPARATORY ACADEMY?

  • MSP (Measurement of Student Progress) scores of 412+ in Reading and Math.
    It is also preferable to have a score of 400+ in Writing and Science.
  • District Assessment: (January) Computational Fluency 90% or better
  • The student will compose a 3‐paragraph essay on the following prompt:  What skills and strategies do I need to be successful in the Cambridge Academy Program? (Typed 12pt. Times New Roman font or one that is similar, maximum one page)
  • Two recommendations. (One must be from a current teacher)
