All incoming 6th graders (to Lakota) are welcome to attend a one day Summer Success Camp on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 8:30 am – 12:30pm. The purpose of Summer Success Camp is to help students transitioning from 5th to 6th grade gain the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to be successful in middle school. Students attending Summer Success Camp will participate in team building activities, learn study and organizational skills, learn strategies commonly used by Lakota teachers in reading, writing, math and science, and will be given a tour of the school, including the library, cafeteria (where lunch will be provided), and gymnasium (where students will practice how to open and close a lock). Students will hear about Lakota’s dress code, which sports are available to 6th graders, the many activities and clubs offered at Lakota, and have an opportunity to meet 6th grade teachers and Lakota staff. Our objective for the day is for participating students to feel welcome, comfortable, and confident, which will lead to positive academic achievement and healthy social interactions.
Applications are available in the Lakota office or the Lakota website, and are due by August 7. If you have questions, please contact Karen Silver at 253-945-4803. Transportation will be provided, if needed. You will receive a letter giving more specific information one week prior to Camp. We look forward to meeting your children and providing them with an opportunity to develop positive relationships, healthy attitudes, and communication skills as they begin their middle school years. Welcome to Lakota!
