
ART DOCENT: The Art Docent is a district-sponsored program supported by the PTA. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for exhibiting reproductions and describing the artist’s life and individual style of painting to the children in each classroom. Reprints and handbooks are provided. Actual classroom time is 20-30 minutes.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: This program is designed to help the community by way of a coat drive, holiday mitten tree and food/teddy bear drive. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for organizing these events, collecting the items, and delivering them to the appropriate place.
COOKIES: The PTA offers a sweet snack to students during lunch time. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for baking and selling cookies, counting and depositing the monies collected. This is also a fundraiser.
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS: This committee maintains perishable items in the backpacks that are located in each classroom and to be a representative on the school Disaster Preparedness Committee.
FAMILY NIGHT EVENTS: The PTA hosts several family evening events throughout the year. The Chairpersons and volunteers are responsible for organizing and carrying out each event. This years events are: WINTERFEST - which is a carnival in the winter for students and adults. BEACH PARTY - a dance with the beach party theme. BINGO - a time to play bingo and win prizes.
FUNDRAISING: This committee is responsible for organizing the variety of fundraisers for the year. This years fundraisers will consist of wrapping paper sales and a fifth grade carnival to help the fifth grade class raise money for 6th grade camp.
HOLIDAY SHOP: This program is designed to enable children to purchase gifts for their family for the holiday season. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for ordering and setting up products, collecting funds and helping children shop. This can also be a fundraiser.
HOSPITALITY: This Chairperson and volunteers organizes and supplies treats for all PTA Board and General meetings. They are a contact for new families to the school and acknowledges school staff birthdays.
LABELS/BOX TOPS: This program is designed to purchase items for the school by collecting labels, box tops, etc. from designated food products. This year the committee is adding Pepsi Notes as another item to collect. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for collecting and organizing the labels. The Chairperson, along with the Executive Committee, shall decide on what should be “purchased.”
LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVE: This program is designed to stay on top of information provided by the news, State PTA, and the legislative hotline. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for distributing information that is of importance to our school. The Chairperson may have to attend one meeting in Olympia.
MEMBERSHIP: This program is designed to promote PTA and encourage parents and school staff to join the PTA. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for carrying out a campaign to promote the PTA, collecting all membership dues, developing a master list of the PTA members, and distributing membership cards.
NEWSLETTER/BUSINESS ADVERTISEMENT: This program is designed to inform parents of the programs and activities happening at Meredith Hill Elementary. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for collecting information from each committee Chairperson (as needed) and other sources, organizing, typing and distributing the newsletter. In addition they contact local businesses and parents of the students who own/run a business to advertise in the newsletter for a small fee. The Business Advertisement is designed as a fundraiser.
PTA WEBSITE: The Chairperson and volunteers create the PTA web pages that are linked to the school web site. They coordinate with the school web master to update/add any information.
READ AND LEAD: This program is designed to encourage students to read by rewarding them for minutes/books read. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for obtaining prizes/incentives, organizing the program, and recording minutes read. At the end of the program a “party” is given to those students who participated.
REFLECTIONS: This program is designed to promote and reward various forms of the arts. Recognition is given in art, music, writing and photography. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for distributing information about the program and important deadlines to students, parents and staff. Also, art work may need to be displayed at the SeaTac Mall.
FIFTH GRADE CELEBRATION: This committee works collaboratively with all the 5th Grade teachers and other Meredith Hill staff, plan, communicate and implement the end of school “graduation” celebration for all the 5th grade students.
STAFF APPRECIATION: This program is designed to show the teachers and staff of Meredith Hill how much they are appreciated for their commitment to our children. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for organizing and carrying out events throughout the year.
T-SHIRTS/SWEATSHIRTS: This program offers Meredith Hill T-shirts and sweatshirts to students and adults. The Chairperson and volunteers are responsible for obtaining a design/style for T-shirts and sweatshirts, selling, distributing, and collecting monies.
YEAR BOOK: The yearbook is offered to the children of Meredith Hill as a way to remember the exciting happenings that have gone on during the year. It is put together for us by a group of 5th and 6th graders in an after school program beginning in January. Parent volunteers are welcome to join in the fun.
