Dear Parents,
When an earthquake hits the Northwest, Meredith Hill is a good
place to be! Our school building was designed and constructed with
all of the newest regulations in place to withstand an earthquake
and our staff and students know just what to do to be safe.
When the earthquake hit on the morning of February 28, the Meredith
Hill community calmly went to safe places. The building was inspected
and we determined that it was safe to remain in the building. I
made the decision not to evacuate based on this information. I also
know that children feel safer when they are in their classrooms
with their teachers and I was concerned about the fears that come
after a disaster. Our entire school was calm - many parents called
to check on us, others came to make sure all was okay. We encouraged
parents who stopped into visit classrooms and check in with their
child. A handful of families decided to go home and spend the rest
of the day together.
A thank you to Mr. Falk and our disaster preparedness team from
the P.T.A., Kathy Thomas and Kim Byrne for insuring that we are
so well prepared for this and, although we hope it never happens,
much more severe disasters.
Sincerely,
Christie Brown
