Project work offers intensive work and learning opportunities which are conducted in a language which can be more easily understood at home. Projects are about the real world. The topics most often build on children's first hand experience. The children can be encouraged to find things out by talking to their parents. They do not need to be talking about abstruse and technical things but about shops, vehicles, travel, holidays, where food comes from, where the water goes down the drain, what the world was like when their parents were children.

Where rich and productive project work is going on alongside systematic instruction in basic skills, schools can become places where children learn willingly, parents support their leaning, and teachers enjoy the challenge of life in the classroom.
