Nautilus Students Explore Epidemics with UW Medicine

November 8th, 2014 by mahoffma

Middle-school students at Nautilus K-8 School participated in a unique lesson on epidemics last week, with the help of staff from University of Washington Medicine. Nautilus teachers Dan Haegele and Candace Ray helped create the partnership with UW Medicine to bring the lesson to the school. Students researched historical and current epidemics and also learned how a virus attacks animal cells. UW Medicine visited Nautilus and worked with the students to help them learn how diseases spread. Students also visited the UW Research facility to learn about the daily activities of researchers. For their culminating project, the students will put together a CDC panel to control an epidemic of their choice.

Absences and Tardies

It is important that you call the Nautilus office at 253-945-3400 when your child will be absent or late to school. By Federal Law we are required to receive documentation for all absences and tardies. The office has a answering machine available so if you need to make a late night call please leave a message for the office staff. Remember to follow up with a note for all absences. Thank you

Have you seen the new flyers hanging in the office window.  It shows how many absences and tardies we have had so far this year.  Please make sure your child arrives on time and if they will be absent please call the Nautilus Office and send a note the next day.  You can always email your absence note to jbrewste@fwps.org
