Learning Plan Goals

As educators, we at Nautilus Elementary continue to set high learning standards for all of our students. In order for children to achieve grade level competency, Nautilus is utilizing new and exciting programs and strategies to enhance student learning in reading, writing, and math.

Reading

All Nautilus students are expected to read at grade level by the end of the school year. These efforts are supported through Nautilus’ Learning Assistance Program (K-3) and the Accelerated Reading program (K-6). I-728 funds both a half-time reading teacher and the Extended Learning Opportunity program for third through sixth grade students. Classroom lessons are supplemented with a variety of proven reading strategies including the 5-Component Reading Model and through teaching children how to connect what is read to their own experiences, to other books, and to world events and issues.

Writing

Student portfolios and pre and post writing samples are just two ways educators use to teach your children how to write at grade level competency. The three trait writing assessment is also used to help students edit and enhance their written work. Students from kindergarten through fourth grade focus on narrative and expository forms of writing while the fifth and sixth grades add persuasive writing to their repertoire of skills.

Math

All Nautilus students strive to achieve their best to gain at least one year’s growth in the area of math as measured by classroom and district math assessments. In order to reach this goal, educators incorporate computation practice and problem solving. Fifth and sixth grade students also take part in the Accelerated Math program to further their arithmetic skills.

It is our goal at Nautilus Elementary that students utilize all of these strategies and more to achieve the standards of learning they desire and deserve. The staff at Nautilus thanks you for your constant support in these endeavors.
