Green Schools

Nautilus K8 School has completed Level 3 of the Green Schools Program.  Some of the things that we have done at our school to accomplish this goal is:

*Morning announcements on how to conserve water, interesting water facts, and/or reminders of what to compost versus recycle.

*Students made a poster with pictures of what to recycle, a poster with pictures of what to compost, and a poster of what is garbage for each of the four stations in the lunch room.

*Classroom presentations at the beginning of the year on Recycling and Composting in classrooms as well as at lunch.

*Students made and posted a water conservation sign next to every sink in the building (Turn off water when not in use” with a picture of a dripping faucet).

*Maintained a 41% recycling rate!

*Once again, annual Redondo Creek clean up with Surface Water Management from the Cities of Federal Way and Des Moines.

*Lakehaven Utility Water Conservation Poster Contest for the last several years.

*Measured water flow from faucets around the school.  Students turned the data into tables and graphed.

*Trying to get a free standing rain barrel for our Community Garden.
