Kindergarten Syllabus

Mrs. Angeline and Mrs. Beck

Welcome to our kindergarten program. The two most important ingredients to learning at the kindergarten level are, being able to listen and to follow directions. When a child shows readiness in these areas, he/she is able to be taught.

We become partners in one of the most important jobs we have--helping your child to become all he or she can be. It's a challenging task and a terrifically rewarding one too.

It is in the best interest of your child that there exists close home-school communication. You have the right to know how and what your child is doing in school. We are in touch with you every day via a daily newsletter.

It is very important for parents to help your child at home. An excellent opportunity for family discussion concerns the sound or concept being taught each week. Going through magazines, pointing out signs in the car, looking about a room, playing riddle games, etc., all are ways parents can help reinforce what your child needs to know to enter first grade.

Another way to help your child is to read to him/her daily. It serves to expose your child to language and to broaden his/her experience level.

Allowing your child to tell about the school day and really listening gives validity to this part of your child's life.

Reciting rhymes and jingles and reviewing nursery rhymes all go together to improve listening skills and promote language--important aspects of reading readiness.

We use many approaches to learning. Realizing that each person learns in unique ways, we teach by using visual cues, auditory methods as well as kinesthetic activities.

Discipline is not usually a problem. The focus is on being kind to each other and allowing each child to have an optimal learning environment. The expectations for behavior are clearly explained and taught.

Our rules are follow directions the first time. Keep your hands, feet and all objects to yourself. Hurt no one on the inside or the outside. Everyone has the right to be happy and lastly, always walk in the classroom and on the walkways.

We believe Kindergarten is a place where the foundation of a child's educational experience is developed. We encourage your child to participate fully in school work and school fun.

Children learn what they live. When your child sees his/her life surrounded by caring and attentive parents and school staff, he or she will surely join with us to help make this a positive and happy experience.

Classroom Curriculum

Our curriculum is integrated in as many ways as possible. Phonemic Awareness and phonics are the springboard from which we work. We will lay the foundation for life long reading. That begins by building on recognizing a letter as a letter, recognizing a word as a word, rhyming, letter of the week, and sight/secret words. We will incorporate reading, language arts, math and art projects.

Enrichment Opportunities

Expectations are clearly taught and consequences enforced as needed.
