In addition to the regular lunch time, students will now be served fresh fruits and vegetables in their classrooms Monday-Thursday. This new program will help children expand their tastes for fruits and vegetables such as mushrooms, peppers, plums and cherry tomatoes. The food is picked out by nutrition services and will begin September 15th. Each month new foods will be delivered and a menu will be put on the above tab “Fruit and Vegetable Program”

We are having another community garden work party on Saturday September 27th from 9-it’s done. PTA will be providing light food and refreshments. Please help us weed and even harvest some delicious veggies from our garden!
The 1st grade classes will be going on a field trip to the pumpkin patch on October 9th from 9:00-2:00. Students need to bring their permission form back to their teacher as soon as possible. The cost of the field trip is $6 which includes a pumpkin for the student to keep. Please indicate on the permission form if your child will be bringing a lunch from home or ordering a school lunch.
If you would like to chaperone, you will need to have an active Washington State Background Check form filed in the office. The forms take about 2 weeks to process so if yours is not filed it will need to be turned in to the office no later than September 25th. Chaperones will need to pay $4 for entry and will have to pay extra if they want to take a pumpkin home with them. Each first grade class needs at least 4 chaperones.
This is a wonderful opportunity to link science, reading and adventure in the classroom so please fill out the paperwork and return it as soon as possible so that your child will be able to attend.
Federal Way’s effort to help our carbon footprint has implemented a new online flyer service. In an effort to save paper, you will be instead receiving emails from Peachjar. You can also view the flyers on the OLV website at any time. You can adjust the setting on the site to show you only what you want to receive from outside agencies such as summer camps, or soccer teams. There is also an app for Peachjar. Some flyers from the school might still come home in paper form for upcoming events and important notices but Peachjar will greatly decrease paper usage. No action is required on your part if you have an email registered on your child’s enrollment information. If you did not get an email welcoming you to the new system, please visit the frequently asked questions section of their website. Click here to be directed to the website.
