Discipline Plan
I am very pleased to have your child in my class this year. I would like
to take this opportunity to share with you my approach to classroom discipline.
I feel it is vital and in the best interest of your child that there exist
close home-school communication. You have the right to know how your child
is doing at school. It is my responsibility to keep you informed as to
the behavior of your child.
Good Citizenship Behaviors: Listed below are the 6 behaviors I
expect from each child in my classroom. These behaviors are followed by
the limit-setting and positive consequences I will use during the year.
- 1. Show respect to all people.
- 2. Raise your hand to speak.
- 3. Look and listen when someone is talking.
- 4. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
- 5. Follow directions carefully.
- 6. Keep your work area clean.
Limit-setting Consequences: I believe behavior is a choice that
each child consciously makes every day. I encourage the children to make
positive choices and empower them with the knowledge that they control
their own choices and therefore are responsible for their consequences.
I use a color chart to show the limit-setting consequences that will occur
if the Good Citizenship Behaviors are not met. Your child will begin each
day with the color green, and if necessary, will move to another color
in the following order:
- Green - Good Citizenship (Good Job!)
- Yellow - Warning and 5 minute loss of recess (OOPS!)
- Red - Miss whole recess and/or phone call home for serious infractions
(YIKES!)
Positive Consequences: These consequences will occur when positive
choices have been made and Good Citizen Behaviors are met.
- Verbal praise
- Stamps, stickers and awards
- A happy note home
- A special activity
Every day your child will receive a colored slip indicating his/her citizenship
behavior for the day. Please take time to review your child's behavior
for the day and praise him/her for his/her successes. If he/she had difficulties,
discuss positive alternative behavior to correct the problem. Make sure
you consistently take time to look at the Citizen Behavior slips, this
helps make your child accountable for his/her actions which is the first
step in learning to be responsible.
