Health & Fitness
Mr. Kevin Bauer
Health and Fitness is an opportunity for children to discover what their bodies can do. It teaches students how to take care of their body so they can continue to be active throughout their life.

Physical Education Key To Improving Health In Low-income Adolescents
A study by the University of California, San Francisco and UC Berkeley, investigated 9,268 7th-9th graders in 19 public schools in low-income communities throughout California. Students were anonymously questioned regarding their participation in physical activity outside and inside of physical education. Answers were then linked to their annual fitness test battery scores. According to one of the chief investigators (Madsen) "PE was by far the most significant predictor of students' fitness and was the only variable associated with improved weight status," Madsen said. "I think this shows that we need to increase the importance of physical education in schools and set up tougher standards in the same way we set up tough standards around academic performance." Also the more students enjoyed their health and fitness class the better their time was in the mile walk/run.
