Homework Reminders

It is my expectation that students read at least fifteen minutes each night. Please alternate between reading to your child, having your child read to you, and reading together. Feel free to use any books or magazines that you have at home. In addition, the public library is a great resource for getting books for you child. ( www.kcls.org ). By signing the slip in their homework folder, you are communicating to me that you child has read for fifteen minutes.

Additional homework expectations are outlined in the weekly newsletter. Throughout the year, students will be practicing writing their names, learning critical words, and practicing various math skills. Please check the newsletter each week for more information about homework expectations.

Management System

My management philosophy is based on respecting every child. At the beginning of the year, the students and I came up with rules that we felt were best for our classroom community. These rules are:

1.) Be Safe

2.) Be Ready to Learn.

In our classroom, students are given two warnings. On the third warning, they are asked to move away from the group for five minutes. After five minutes, students can join the group again as long as they are ready to follow classroom rules.

I also award Fledgling Flyer tickets to students that are following classroom rules, as well as students who are demonstrating responsibility, respect, and cooperation. We do daily drawings of the Fledgling Flyer tickets, where students can earn prizes from the prize drawer.

Newsletters

Newsletters with important information about what is happening in our classroom are sent home each Monday. Please check your child's backpack!
