Sherwood Forest Elementary

Vision

Sherwood Forest is a place where high standards for academics and responsible behavior are supported in a safe, nurturing environment through active learning, clear communication, and independent problem solving.

Mission

Cognitive

  • At Sherwood Forest, we recognize and value the diverse cognitive strengths and talents of our students.

  • We respect the developmental similarities and differences of individual learners.

  • Utilizing critical and creative thinking skills, students learn to apply and transfer learning within the classroom, home, and larger community.

Social, Emotional and Physical

  • As a school, we promote behaviors and attitudes that result in students making positive, healthy choices for themselves and others. Students learn to communicate their thoughts and feelings to others while also being effective listeners. Students accept responsibility for their own actions and choices.

Family and Community

  • Sherwood Forest strives to be a "neighborhood school," serving our students, families and the surrounding community. We welcome and invite parents, as students' primary educators, and other community members to join us as partners in building success for students as our future citizens.
  • We are involved in seeking and providing opportunities for support and growth within our neighborhood school.

Staff

  • We model positive attitudes, behaviors and academic learning for students.

  • We acknowledge and reward positive attitudes, behaviors, efforts, and academic learning on the part of students.

  • We set clear, high expectations for students to: do their best, seek growth through learning, work cooperatively, exhibit a willingness to take risks, acknowledge and appreciate strengths in others as well as themselves.

  • We use an integrated team approach to school and curriculum planning, utilizing professional expertise and talents of our complete staff.
