The Silver Lake Library

Mrs. McSweeney reads a book to the teachers in a staff meeting!

Upon entering the building, it is easy to see why the Library at Silver Lake Elementary is the heart of the school.

The first thing you will notice when you enter our Library is its bright and welcoming decorations. The warm and friendly atmosphere draws in students and staff and encourages them to explore the wide variety of materials available. The collection includes over fifteen thousand items. These items consist of books, Accelerated Reader texts, software, videos, charts, posters, maps, reference materials and AV equipment. In addition, our Library houses ten fully networked computers to help students and staff in their quest for knowledge.

Mrs. McSweeney, our certificated Librarian, and Mrs. McBroom, the Library clerk, work hard to support students as they utilize reference skills to enhance their learning. Mrs. McSweeney and the classroom teachers plan and team teach lessons that integrate reading, research, writing, science, and social studies. Weekly story and instruction times are lively and interesting. Profits from our annual Book Fairs are used to purchase new books and materials.

Parents are always welcome to join the learning that occurs in our Library. They are invited to check out from our vast parent information section. Volunteers are needed to help keep the heart of our school, the Library, beating its fabulous rhythm of learning.
