Welcome to Silver Lake Elementary

Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2006-07 school year. We are so happy that you and your children are a part of the Silver Lake community. Please note that one of our goals as a community at Silver Lake is to be accessible to parents and community members at all times. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. I can be reached either through the front office number which is 253-945-3900 or my direct number which is 253-945-3904. I check my telephone messages regularly and my goal is to return all messages with in the same day. If e-mail is your preferred form of communication, you may e-mail me at mswartz@fwps.org I do check my e-mail regularly and will make every attempt to respond within 24 hrs.

I personally am quite excited about the start of the 2006-07 school year. As many of you already know, I come to Silver Lake after three years as the assistant principal at Totem Middle School. Prior to Totem, I was the assistant principal at South Sound High School in the North Thurston School District. I feel that my varied experiences and my work at all levels of education K-12 have prepared me well to be the principal at Silver Lake.

We have a wonderful staff at Silver Lake that includes 14 new faces. Please take some time to visit your child's teacher so that they can get to know you.

Our Goal at Silver Lake is to provide a safe environment where everyone can do their best learning. We hope to do this through a strong partnership between students, parents, teachers and support staff. We all want success for all of our students.

I would like to take this time to remind you all of Silver Lake's mission and vision for the 2006-2007 school year:

Yours,

Michael Swartz

Administrative Assistant's Message

School Counselor's Message

Hello, my name is Jesse Rodriguez and I am Silver Lake's new school counselor. I come from a background of teaching. In fact, I have taught for the past 17 years. I have always known in my heart that counseling would be a great fit with my personality. That, coupled with my love of young people and desire to help, made counseling a career choice for me. I have spent the last two years at the University of Puget Sound obtaining a degree in school counseling and completing an extensive internship.

On a personal note, I am married and have a 14-year-old son who is just starting his first year of high school. My husband and I cannot believe that we are old enough to have a kid in high school, but remain thankful that at least we have a year until he starts driving. Besides staying busy with our son, I also love to be outdoors, whether it is running, camping, fishing or my latest obsession – golfing!

I am excited to be here at Silver Lake. I will be teaching your children how to help solve life's small problems with the help of Kelso the frog. This frog teaches the children that they can try to solve their own small problems with ideas such as sharing, talking it out or walking away. I will also be in their classroom to discuss school safety and ensure that Silver Lake is a safe environment in which each child can learn to their potential.

Please feel free to stop by my office anytime. I would love to meet you.

Jesse Rodriguez
