Todd Beamer High School
was named after a hero of September 11th:
Todd Morgan Beamer (
November 24 , 1968 – September 11 , 2001 ) was a victim of the
September 11, 2001 attacks . He was a passenger aboard United
Airlines Flight 93 .
He
was someone who acted spontaneously as a hero when the plane
on which he was a passenger was overtaken by terrorists. After
Beamer put the phone down, the operator heard him say, "Are
you guys ready? O.K. Let's roll."
David
Beamer, father of Todd Beamer, spoke to the students of the
Northwest College Preparatory Academy in the spring of 2007.
He shared with them the "human"side of his son, remembering
the time Todd walked home the winning
run, and the time he was cut from the Fresno State baseball team,
and the
time Todd wrecked his sister's brand new car, and the time his
high school
girl friend "dumped" him.
David
wanted the students to realize that his
son was just like them, but he also shared what he hoped to
be the message
of his son's life: do the right thing when the time comes.
Todd, and the others on flight 93, stood
up in the face of terror and
thwarted the enemy, David told the students. He also told them
about
Todd's success in business and with his family. He then urged
the
students to think about the name they represent and do the right
thing.
