2006-2007 School Year Highlights

June 2007 Karlo named as one of the All-Star Grads by the Tacoma News Tribune.

May 30, 2007 - Congratulations to B&I Senior Kasey H. who receives acclaim as a national speaker for FCCLA.

May 12 - Todd Beamer High School Theatre proudly presented the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress” Portions of this show were recently presented at the State Drama Festival (Co-Sponsored by the Washington Alliance for Theatre Education and Eastern Washington University) where it received a rating of “Excellent”. Congratulations!

May 10, 2007 - DECA to Nationals This year, TBHS had 4 students attend ICDC (National DECA competition). We were in Orlando, FL for 5 days.

  • Morgan D. placed 3rd place in Full Service Restaurant Management. There were over 35,000 competitors who started this event in January throughout the country. This finishes her career at Todd Beamer with a second and first place at the state level over the past two years and a second and third place at nationals for her.
  • Jacob R. and Brianna M. also attended and competed in a Business Law and Ethics Team event. They placed second in their sectionals which meant they placed in the top 20 for the entire nation. They also placed second in the state competition this year.
  • Jeff L. attended the Leadership Conference part of Nationals. There were over 3,000 students attending this part. He was put into a group of 8 students for a 2 day, 16 hour hands on conference on leadership. He had students from Canada, Germany, Guam, and North Carolina in his group. They worked on team building, run meetings and how to energize people in those meetings, trust, etiquette, and respect of others.

Some of our Accomplishments for the Year

  1. 67 active members
  2. 36 students attended Fall Leadership Conference in Bellevue, WA in October. The students were there for 3-days learning leadership skills with a Washington State theme to it. The students attended 8 hours of classes each day and had 6 different topics to choose from in each time slot. One of the classes was a business owner talking about his travel agency and how customers are not using his services anymore, so he has had to change his marketing strategy and look more globally to get his clients.
  3. 16 students attended Western Regional Leadership Conference in Albuquerque, NM in November. The students were there for 4 days and attended 6 hours of classes each day. This was marketing and leadership with a national flair to it. One of the topics the students enjoyed was the local minor league baseball team and how to market it. The teams of 8 students competed against each other to create the best total marketing package as voted on by the owners of the team. This was competitive and informative.
  4. Area Competition in January. We had 25 students compete in 14 different events. This was a one-day competition at Emerald Downs in Auburn where the students took a 100 question multiple answer test and had one or two roll plays. The top 7 went on to state competition.
  5. State Competition in March in Bellevue, WA. We had 15 students earn the right from area to compete in State. This was a 3-day event where the students also learned Leadership skills along with their testing. The students once again took another 100-question test and two more roll plays with the top 7 earning the right to attend the International Conference.
  6. ICDC conference. Explained above

Our DECA club also donated over $5,000 to other clubs at Todd Beamer as well as donated to local charities. We also logged over 65 hours of community service. If you see a DECA student or Mr. Phillips, please help me in congratulating them.

March 6, 2006 - The theme of the mural is "All means ALL". All means ALL is the belief that all students from all walks of life have all that is possibly needed for them to succeed. Anything that could be provided, will be provided. Through words and colors is how that idea is expressed: words of wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration. Every single word on the mural is a picture of you and that word. All means ALL includes all the people that are working together in making that idea a reality. In the mural, Flight 93 is shown as a remembrance of Todd Beamer and of the other 39 passengers, who died on 9/11. Forty passengers, one destiny. As my gift to the school, this mural is meant to encourage others to take advantage of what is given to them, to understand the words and make something of themselves. This mural was done with the help of teachers, staff, and faculty members and is a dedication to the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Todd Beamer High School.
