WHAT
IS THE CAREER CENTER?
The
Todd Beamer Career Center is where students can research career
options, investigate post-secondary opportunities, make plans and
start taking steps to reach their goals.
WHAT SERVICES DOES IT OFFER?
The
Todd Beamer Career Center offers a multitude of services for the
work or college bound student. One of the best services we offer
is the “Choice” computer program. Choice offers various
services including helping the student locate financial aid, scholarship,
college and the careers that they are most qualified for. The Career
Center also doubles as a mini-library offering books and pamphlets
with information on colleges, scholarships, financial aid, careers,
ASVAB, SAT and ACT exams, OSC and Running Start.
The
Career Center is where the “College Visits” will
be scheduled; normally taking place in the fall, beginning
in October. Students will be asked to sign up, in advance, if
they plan on attending. This allows us to get an accurate count,
since the Career Center has limited seating. Some visits will
be conducted informally in the Commons area during lunch.
WHEN IS THE BEAMER CAREER CENTER OPEN?
The
Career Center is open from 7:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. including
during lunch. This schedule can vary at times because Ms. Mongrain
has additional assigned duties, which takes
her away from the center. Appointments can be made with Ms.
Mongrain to have a one-on-one session,
but she will not take a student out of class to do this. Students
must get teacher approval, if they want to meet during class
time. The center’s hours
can be extended if arrangements are made in advance with Ms. Mongrain.
A SUGGESTION TO TODD BEAMER STUDENTS:
As
early as your Sophomore year you should start your search for scholarships.
If you apply one year and do not get the scholarship you can apply
again as a Junior and Senior, if necessary. A great majority of
scholarships are essay format and the deadlines for entry are before
February, so the earlier you start the process the better chance
you have of being awarded one or several scholarships.
