Meet the Coach
Mr. Lindberg

An exclusive interview with, the new Todd Beamer Dance Coach, Joel Lindberg!!

Q. What do you think of TBHS so far as a new teacher and a new coach?
A. I think TBHS is a great school. Aside from the beautiful facilities, it is a school full of people who go to great lengths to help students learn. It is a school that is willing to step away from the traditional high school model to give students better opportunities. I am having a great experience here.

Q. Describe your role as the new coach of the dance team?
A. Stepping into the role as the new dance coach, I had some big shoes to fill. Last year's team accomplished some amazing things and the returning dancers had son big goals. I came in with the mentality that I would do what I could to get this team to where they want to go. I stepped into the perfect situation for myself. I coach an amazing group of dancers. They have great attitudes and love to learn.

Q.What about the dancers! How do they treat you?
A. I have had a great time working with the dancers. They get down to business when I need them to and have a lot of fun with each other.

Q. How was the first annual Dance Camp? Did you get what you expected?
A. Our first annual dance camp was a success. We brought in 40 kids ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade, which helped us raise a little money for the team. Next year we'll expect an even larger turnout.

Q.Tell me about the competition for the Seattle Sonic's dance competition. Is it true TBHS team got first place out of all other high schools who competed?
A. The Sonic's competition was a huge success. We placed 4th place overall which is very impressive. At most competitions we complete at, categories such as hip hop or dance are split up and high school teams are the only groups that compete. At this competition all of the categories were combined and there were dance companies and specialty dance groups competing. We competed against some amazing teams and only fell behind three jazz groups from Eastern Washington. So, we did come in above all other hip hop groups and high school teams.

Q.What do you see for the future TBHS Dance Team?
A. I see this team doing great things this year. We will compete at State in March. In January, the team will be putting on a dance show called the Beamer Breakdown, which should be very fun to watch. I hope to see all the dancers return and try out for next year's team so we can continue to build on the successes of this year.

Q.How long do you plan to stay a dance coach for TBHS?
A. Coaching this team will be a year-by-year thing for me but I do not see an end in the near future for me. I am having too much fun right now to stop doing this. Also, I have a young team and I can't see quitting before they all graduate. I think I'll probably be around for a while as long as they still want me to coach.

Q.Do you have a motto or special slogan that you use to encourage the dancers?
A. I can't say that I use slogans and sayings very often with the dance team as they are a pretty motivated group, but one that I like is: "Everyone who got where they are, had to begin where they were."

Thank you Mr.Lindberg for your time! Good luck this year!

Until next time, stay tuned for future news! Support the TBHS dancers!
