Competitive high school speech and debate has been part of Federal Way School District for the past forty years. The Federal Way School District currently has four high school speech teams at Decatur, Federal Way, Thomas Jefferson High School and now Todd Beamer High School.

     The Todd Beamer Speech and Debate team did very well last year, winning over 70 trophies. We qualified fourteen students to the two WIAA State tournaments and we had two students take 4th place.

     The TBHS Speech and Debate team compete in individual events and debate. Our goal will be to compete in 20-25 tournaments this year from October to April. We would also like to travel to six out of state tournaments this year including, Yale, Texas A&M, Harvard, Arizona State, Long Beach Ca. and Philadelphia. These tournaments will help students prepare and qualify for the state tournaments in March and the national tournaments in June. It is a great educational and application-building activity. Not only do the students become better communicators but many colleges offer scholarships to speech and debate members. The TBHS Speech and Debate team is a member of the NFL (National Forensic League), and by participating you will become a member of the NFL, which will open new doors and opportunities for you.
