1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create,
to perform, and to respond effectively to Graphic Design.
To meet this standard, the student will:
1.1 Demonstrates a working knowledge of design elements and principles:
line, value, shape, form, space, texture, color, size, graduation, and
tone.
1.2 Recognizes historical styles and artistic techniques.
1.3 Identifies and experiments with different media to include, but not
limited to:, color media, design markers, digital media, audio and video.
2. The student applies the creative process with design knowledge and skills
to reason and solve problems.
To meet this standard, the student will:
2.1 Demonstrate knowledge of design process
2.2 Show a workable knowledge of production processes
2.3 Demonstrate knowledge of types advertising their relationship to mood
and response
2.4 Develop an design vocabulary related to tools, materials, techniques,
advertising and digital terminology
2.5 Demonstrate skill in design processes: Brainstorming word lists, Thumbnail
sketches, layout, color comprehensives and final presentation.
2.6 Demonstrate a knowledge of tools techniques tactics and strategies
of media.
2.7 Identify historical design styles and their influence on current design
and future trends.
2.8 Demonstrate the ability to manipulate color in a variety of mediums
3. The student uses at least one of the media techniques to communicate
ideas and feelings.
To meet the standard, the student will:
3.1 Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of tools, software and
media to solve a variety of design problems
3.2 Shows a workable knowledge of technology and software to solve a variety
of design problems
3.3 Develops the ability to recognize mood in line, value, and color
3.4 Develops the ability to recognize subliminal advertising techniques
3.5 Recognizes and identifies a variety of advertising campaigns
3.6 Develop the ability to combine media and techniques to enhance ideas
and communicate with the viewer
4. The student understands how the design connects to other subject areas,
life, work and the consumer.
To meet this standard, the student will:
4.1 Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of design and their relationship
to nature
4.2. Identify the target audience (age, geography, gender and socioeconomic
level) design is produced for, and how it affects that audience
4.3 Observes, writes, and discusses merits of personal work and work of
others. Develops ability to work in a team based environment.
4.4 Listens to speakers in design related careers and schools
4.5 Observes and investigates consumer art and design of utilitarian objects
4.6 Creates a unique personal resume
4.7 Creates a portfolio of designed, written, and digital work
