An introductory course in salesmanship, career exploration, job-finding skills, positive self-image building, cashiering, display, advertising, free enterprise simulation through the use of computers, and other skills necessary for job placement in local businesses.

This course will provide the students with experience in marketing, business management, international business, and experience in starting a small business. Students will also be provided with leadership training and opportunities for participating in school, state, and national DECA activities. One hour of class time will be devoted to the principles and skills related to marketing and management.

Students who are working may request a work release time. Students must be enrolled in Marketing and Sales I-II, Marketing & Management III-IV or Merchandise & Careers V-VI and must have the permission of the Marketing Education Coordinator. Students in Marketing & Management III-IV and Merchandise & Careers V-VI will be given priority for work credit.

Marketing is designed to prepare graduates to be well qualified for exciting, fast-paced careers in PR, Direct Response Marketing, Retail Management, New Product Planning, International Marketing and many others.

Course content has been developed to emphasize current marketing trends and opportunities for success. Some of the courses in Marketing degree program include:

  1. Consumer Behavior Fundamentals
  2. Personal Selling and Customer Focus
  3. Marketing Research Practices
  4. Integrated Marketing Strategies
  5. Principles of Advertising and Public Relations
  6. Applied Marketing Management

Courses are taught by established professionals in their field, giving students valuable opportunities to derive insights and real-world perspectives from experts in the Marketing field.

The students with no previous college experience can complete this degree program in about 2 1/2 years. Students with prior college credit, military experience or an Associate's Degree may be eligible for the Program. In some cases, this may shorten the length of the program to 15 months.

You can earn eight Professional Certificates as you work toward the completion in Marketing without adding classes or increasing tuition. Attaining these resume-building certificates can help you prepare for success in your marketing career.

EALRs

1. The student develops the skills to create and present accurate and effective communication (oral and written) tailored to the specific purpose and needs of the audience.

To meet this standard, the student will:

1.1 Explain the role in International business and analyze its impact on careers and doing business at the local, state, national, and international levels.
1.2 Identify forms of business ownership and entrepreneurial opportunities available in international business.
1.3 Read, write and understand banking terminology, practices, and trends.
1.4 Apply appropriate interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to be a productive and successful employee.
1.5 Identify and access sources of information and assistance.
1.6 Demonstrate the ability to use e-mail effectively and appropriately.

2. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to determine the correct mathematical process to use for various problem situations and to use formulas when appropriate.

To meet this standard, the student will:

2.1 Explain the role, importance, and concepts of international finance and risk management.
2.2 Relate balance of trade concepts to the import/export process.
2.3 Perform calculations and solve problems manually and with electronic equipment (i.e., Balance cash drawers).

3. The student applies basic business knowledge and skills to reason and to solve problems.

To meet this standard, the student will:

3.1 Apply communication strategies necessary and appropriate for effective and profitable international business relations.
3.2 Describe the social, cultural, political, legal, and economic factors that shape and impact the international and business environment.
3.3 Describe the environmental factors that define what is considered ethical business behavior.
3.4 Address special challenges in operations and management of human resources in international business.
3.5 Apply marketing concepts to international business.
3.6 Utilize organizational skills to maintain efficient work environment.
3.7 Make efficient, economical use of office equipment and supplies.
3.8 Apply appropriate computer skills.

4. The student understands how business connects to other subject areas, as well as future career/educational opportunities.

To meet this standard, the student will:

4.1 Listens to speakers in business related careers.
4.2 Identify career/educational opportunities through advertisements, electronic sources, and other forms of communication.
4.3 Demonstrate an ability to use the Internet as a research tool in a highly efficient manner.
4.4 Demonstrate leadership skills through participation in a student leadership organization and school/community activities.
