EALRs

This class is designed to introduce the basic Sports medicine concepts:

  • Prevention of athletic injuries
    Recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries
    Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries
    Health care administration & Professional development and responsibility
    Emphasis will be placed upon vocational skills and experiences required in allied medical health professions. Students have an opportunity use their skills/knowledge as a student athletic trainer.

1. The student will apply science concepts, knowledge, and skills to evaluate and resolve medical health issues

1. Identify anatomical structures
2. Relate the anatomical structures to their bodily functions
3. Explain how medical injury/condition effects body structure and functions
4. Describe the integration of body systems
5. Explain how nutrition effects human performance
Compare and contrast normal and abnormal gait/posture measurements
7. Examine body part for abnormalities
8. Identify signs and symptoms of injuries
9. Demonstrate basic injury, treatment, and rehabilitation protocols and techniques
10. Demonstrate emergency first aid skills

2. The student will apply mathematical concepts to assess, analyze, and determine a plan of action for medical health situations.

1. Determine ranges of motion, stability, and pain level through proper measurement techniques
2. Collect, organize, and document medical health related data
3. Correctly use measurement tools with an appropriate degree of precision
4. Be able to represent analyzed data in a variety of forms
5. Understand bilateral symmetry in relation to injuries

3. The student will apply technology utilized in the medical health profession

1. Use various technical media to present information to various audiences
2. Understand and utilize various treatment modalities
3. Use informational technology to maintain and organize medical records

4. The student will read, comprehend, and write in a variety of forms for purposes related to medical health care

1. Read occupationally related material and synthesize information in various forms
2. Create an original document utilizing reliable resources
3. Evaluate written and oral material to determine its appropriateness as a resource
4. Be able to read, explain, and apply instructions form technical documents
5. Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner
6. Use correct grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary

5. The student will demonstrate necessary written and oral communication skills exhibited in the medical health field

1. Orally present medical health information for various audiences
2. Engage in medical health care discussions
3. Defend a position on a researched medical health issue
4. Complete required medical records and documentation
5. Actively listen and engage in relevant questions
6. Perform tasks from verbal instructions
7. Listen with respect
8. Organize ideas and communicate oral messages appropriate to listeners and the situation
9. Communicate clearly and effectively to an audience in an organized and confident manner

6. The student will demonstrate an awareness of of career and educational opportunities within the medical profession.

1. Evaluate a variety of medical and health professional opportunities, including skills and training required, availability of jobs and other considerations.
2. Organize a career/educational pathway toward a desired medical health career.
