What is PSSC?

Puget Sound Skills Center (PSSC) is located just west of SeaTac Airport. PSSC is the school of choice for technical education and career preparation. Annually, over 1300 students from 4 districts and 15 high schools choose to attend PSSC to gain training and experience in 18 career programs not offered by their traditional high schools. They are one of 12 schools in the nation selected to implement an Academy of Information Technology.

PSSC is an integral part of the K-12 system. It provides an opportunity for students between the ages of 16 to 21 to receive career training and/or technical education as part of their public education, with no cost to the students. PSSC operates as an extension of the high schools in the Federal Way, Highline, Tahoma, and Tukwila school districts. It provides students with job preparation skills. Also, depending on the program they choose the opportunity to get a start on a post-secondary education.

PSSC serves the same diversity of students as the local high schools, including high academic achievers and students with special needs. Competency based individualized instruction is utilized to take each student from where they currently are academically and technically to achieve a higher level of occupational skills. Students experience integrated academic, employability, and occupation instruction around the concept of students as employees. Puget Sound Skills Center prepares students with the academic and work skills to successfully enter the job market or advanced education/training.

PSSC motivates, challenges and provides opportunities for students to succeed through hands-on education and applied academics. Students build critical thinking, leadership and employability skills.
