I have attended many high school musicals but few have measured up to the standard achieved by the Thomas Jefferson production of Aida. The quality of the voices was outstanding with the refrain of “The Gods Love Nubia” still playing in my head. The actors commanded a presence and dominated the stage from the start, bringing to life the powerful story of an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier. The touching sadness of forbidden love enthralled the audience from start to finish.
Testimony to the gripping quality of the performance was the fact that my 3 grandchildren aged 3 and 4 sat spellbound throughout the performance.
Well done cast, crew, directors, and musicians. Brilliant job.
