Forms and Projects: True Lies Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in an action-thriller spoof about a secret agent who pretended to be a nerdy computer technician. Another character in the film was actually a used car salesman, but pretended to be a secret agent. The theme of True Lies--that things are not always as they seem-applies to spreadsheet graphs as well. What graphs appear to show is not always what the data means. For this project look through magazines, newspapers, and books to find an example of a misleading graph. You might find that the dimensions of the graph distort the true picture. Perhaps a line graph was used when a pie graph would have been more meaningful. Maybe some of the data was omitted. Photograph (photocopy) the graph, then write a paragraph describing how the graph is misleading and what you would suggest to make it better to depict the real data. |
