| Raiderlinks is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that prepares students for their preferred career paths. Raiderlinks is aligned with the WASL and FWSD literacy goals. Raiderlinks is committed to academic excellence, advanced communications skills, and world-class technical skills. Thanks to a generous Carl Perkins Grant, Raiderlinks will be able to offer special support for young women who qualify in a number of categories as well as those who are interested in technology, science, and engineering. The support will include mentoring programs and field experiences. Raiderlinks graduates have gained entrance and graduated from prestigious universities, art schools, community colleges, technical schools, and they have being hired by business and government agencies throughout the Puget Sound area. During the 2006-2007 school year, Raiderlinks will provide incoming freshmen and sophomores an innovative curriculum that integrates technology into their English, social studies, and science classes. Students are encouraged to use their technical and creative skills in math, world language, and other electives as well. Universal Web access and rigorous scholarship are fundamental to the program's success. Raiderlinks freshmen (2006-2007) will enroll in the Digital Information Processing class. During their sophomore year, students will take either Microsoft Office Specialist 1 (MOS Core) or Web Design 1. A second class could be taken as an elective. These courses will give students an advanced set of communication and technical skills and allow them to earn certifications that are recognized by business and academic institutions. Student will also be provided opportunities to work with Macromedia's suite of productivity tools (Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Fireworks MX) and earn certification in those areas as well.. Raiderlinks sophomores (2006-2007) will take both the Microsoft Office Specialist 1 (MOS Core) and Web Design 1 classes. Students will become proficient in every aspect of Microsoft Office Professional, learn advanced communication skills and take a series of online exams that may lead to Microsoft Office Specialist certification. These exams allow students to demonstrate their proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook at levels recognized as industry standards. Training and certification opportunities are also available for Macromedia's suite of productivity tools including Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, and Fireworks MX. Raiderlinks juniors are provided an advanced curriculum in English, U.S. history, and science. At the same time, students may take advanced technology training, graphic arts, photography, and other electives on the TJ campus. Students who are building a college bound curriculum can take IB/honors classes and earn college credit in the Running Start program at a local community college. Depending on their careers path, students may also opt to take advanced technical classes at the Occupational Skills Center located just south of the Sea-Tac International Airport. Raiderlinks seniors can take specially designed social studies and
English classes, but are encouraged to take their skills and knowledge
into a self-directed curriculum that meets their academic and career
goals. Raiderlinks seniors continue to receive the same personalized
education and support that has become a hallmark of the program. Accomplished
students become eligible for special recognition at the time of graduation.
