Course Description
This is a semester – long course of study for seniors who are encompassing the opportunity to explore various health related careers.  During this course, basic educational skills are expected and emphasized, including reading, writing, and oral communication.  Interpersonal skills necessary for the workplace, such as teamwork, ethics, leadership, and problem solving, will be modeled in the classroom.

Units will include CPR for the Healthcare Provider, Advanced First Aid, HIV/AID education, Drug and Alcohol Education, and the Emergency Response curriculum.  Listen to guest speakers that are actively involved in health careers.  Job shadow with the Federal Way Fire Department. Students who successfully complete the course will leave with a First Responder Certificate of Completion, CPR card for the Healthcare Provider, Advanced First Aid Card, and will leave with lifetime skills in Emergency Response.

Begin your career ladder to becoming a Paramedic, EMT, Firefighter, Physician, Physical Therapist, Nurse or any one of thousands of multi-skilled technicians in health care careers that are just emerging.  The Health Careers class will be a pilot course that provides a basis for understanding specialty areas in occupations and exploring the skills and education necessary within the health care profession. Students will have the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in the classroom, and to ask appropriate questions to enable them to better decide a career interest.  Internet information will be utilized for educational and career planning.  Units will include CPR for the Healthcare Provider, Advanced First Aid, HIV/AIDS education, Drug and Alcohol Education, and Emergency Response curriculum.. Guest speakers will be brought in to specific activities to involve class members in Health Careers.  Job shadow opportunities are available with Emergency Response Personnel in the community, including the Federal Way Fire Dept, Medic One, and AMR Ambulance Company. Upon successful completion of the course, students will leave with a First Responder Certificate of Completion, CPR card for the Professional Rescuer, Advanced First Aid Card, and will leave with lifetime skills in Emergency Response.
