MEET SCORING AND
CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
How
meets are scored:
Dual meets: Points are awarded for finishing in the top 3 in individual events as follows:
5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd (Relays: 5 points 1st, 0 points 2nd)
Tri meets: Points are awarded for finishing in the top 4 in individual events as follows:
5 Points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 point for 3rd, 1 point for 4th (Relays: 5 points 1st, 3 points 2nd)
Individual scores are kept for boys and girl teams: the team with the highest point total is the winning team.
If an individual or relay team is among the top four times/distances/heights in an event from meets the 7 SPSL Central schools have participated in during the season, they qualify to the SPSL Championship meet. The two other SPSL leagues also get their four best performances into SPSL Championship meet. The next four best performances from any of the three leagues are qualified into the SPSL championship meet. If any of the top 16 qualifiers elects not to participate in that event (this often happens when individual athletes concentrate on just one or two events even though they may have qualified in several), then the next best mark is given the opportunity to enter that event. This process continues until the field for that event is filled with 16 athletes/relay teams.
Qualifying for
the West Central District (WCD) Championship Meet:
The top eight
finishers in each event at the SPSL Championship meet qualifies for WCD championship
meet.
Qualifying for the
Washington State 4A Championship Meet:
The WCD is comprised
of 48 4A (Large school division more than 1200 students), which are from the
Narrows League, the Greater St. Helens League and the SPSL.
The WCD Championship
meet represents nearly half of all the 4A schools in Washington and therefore
is given 8 of the 16 entries in each event that qualifies for the State
Championships. In order to advance from the WCD meet to State, a qualifier must
first advance to finals by finishing in the top eight.
